Thank you for expressing an interest in the Tactile Colour System.

The vinyl sheets have a self adhesive backing - just peel off the release paper after cutting to the required shape and size and apply to any smooth surface.

The material can be cut with scissors or a craft knife with the assistance of templates and stencils for more precise work. Masking tape can be used to secure templates to prevent slipping. Masking tape will not damage the textures.

We have attempted to create a tactile progression which can be related to the visible spectrum. For examples, red has a “rubbery” feel in contrast to the “brittle” feel of the green; white is smooth and black is rough.

Tactile Colour images have been created by people of varying visual and artistic ability. The medium has proven to be challenging and thought provoking for the sighted artist, increasing awareness of the often neglected sense of touch. Visually impaired users can establish a relationship with colour and extend their means of communication with sighted people. The textures can also be used as purely tactile information without any reference to colour.

Tactile Colour materials can be used to augment existing games or toys to provide a tactile aspect for colour identification, e.g. covering a wooden jigsaw puzzle.

Tactile Colour can be screen printed in sheets or to reproduce multiple copies of pictures, maps, greeting cards, games, etc.

We would be interested to know of your experiences with Tactile Colour and any suggestions you may have for future applications or potential needs.
