Experience Making This Piece:
The experience of making this piece was most remarkable. I was forced to stop thinking of the surfaces as mere repositories for color and think of the actual feeling of the surfaces and the flow of one texture to another. Getting the vinyl films to conform to the shape of the sculpture was a challenge. And avoiding overlapping textures was difficult, but sign-making experience is very helpful for overcoming the peculiarities of the medium. And when you think about the sensory experience of the object, it opens up parts of your brain you may have never explored.

Tactile Colour Used: Fine gritty blue, soft bumpy orange, dashed line purple, gridded black, very fine gritty grey, very slightly bumpy tan, hard bumpy yellow and raised line pink.

Tactile Description:
The three-dimensional shape is a Mariner's star, or compass rose, with a circle covering the centre of the star. Each of the star's eight rays has two sloping sides. The four long rays of the star are fine gritty blue on one side and soft bumpy orange on the other. The four short rays of the star are gridded black on one side and dashed line purple on the other. The circle at the centre shows a sunset scene, with a raised line pink circle for a sun rising over a very fine gritty grey river. The river winds between hills of very slightly bumpy tan and har bumpy yellow, and the sky behind is also yellow.
